My name is David, and I am 54 years-old. My kids have all moved out of my and my wife’s house. I mostly retired a couple of years ago, so I have a decent amount of free time. I am a little worried that if I don’t take up some type of exercise that I will decline like so many other men that I have seen. I don’t want to feel the way that I feel right now. I am hoping to regain whatever amount of fitness that I can, so that I can continue to lead an active lifestyle and hopefully, a long one. Is it possible for a 54-year-old man to perform these exercises, and what effect will P90X have on me if I can? I give everything to whatever I do, so the effort will be there.
Hi David, as long as there are no health conditions that warrant a lack of exercise, yes, you can. You might not be able to initially complete a workout, but neither can a large portion of 20 year-olds. Do not let that discourage you because workouts are about starting at one physical state and progressing towards another. I should also mention that your age is not nearly as limiting of a factor as you are probably being tempted to believe. Tony Horton, the instructor of the P90X Workout is himself in his mid-fifties. As long as you commit, you will achieve.
